Piper Alderman expands Sydney office with McCabes, Dentons lawyers

Piper Alderman has expanded its Sydney office with a new team that includes environmental and planning specialists Paul Vergotis from McCabes and Alicia Chryssochoides from Dentons.

Vergotis and Chryssochoides will join the firm as partner and special counsel, respectively. They have broad experience in all aspects of planning and environment law and have worked together for several years.

In their new roles, they will work alongside recently appointed partner Marcus Andrews, who also made the jump from McCabes along with paralegal Kimberly Anthonissen last month. Vergotis and Chryssochoides will also be working with partners Richard Abbott and Margot King.

“We are delighted to welcome Paul and his team to the firm in our Sydney office, following the recent addition of Marcus Andrews to the team,” Piper Alderman managing partner Tony Britten-Jones said. “Paul and Marcus have worked together for many years, and we look forward to the new dynamic in our Sydney real estate team.”

Vergotis has extensive expertise in planning, environment and local government law, compulsory acquisitions, civil and criminal prosecutions, heritage matters and due diligence advice work. He has advised on matters involving town planning, environmental compliance and corporate governance to many private organisations and public authorities for over 20 years.

He has represented numerous local councils in NSW.

Chryssochoides specialises in the areas of environment and planning law in NSW.  She has worked on a wide array of matters, including land use planning, major projects, contaminated land management, pollution incidents, energy reporting requirements and climate change waste and heritage.

She has acted for various large-scale property developers, state and local government instrumentalities and state-owned corporations.

Vergotis and Chryssochoides are joined by foreign legal associate Katherine Forster.
